Apostille

Indonesia joined the Hague Apostille Convention in 2022. For member countries, one apostille from the Ministry of Law replaces the old chain of Foreign Affairs and embassy stamps. It is faster and cheaper — provided the document underneath it is in a form the ministry will accept.

Not every document can be apostilled as it stands

The apostille authenticates a signature already on the document — a registrar, a notary, a court clerk, a school principal whose specimen signature is on file. Private papers such as contracts, letters and company statements usually have to be notarised first so that there is a recognised signature to authenticate. We check this before you pay anything.

Whether you need one at all

It depends entirely on the destination. Documents for Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, Japan, Korea, the United States and most of Europe take the apostille route. Documents for countries outside the convention — much of the Gulf and parts of Africa and Asia — still need Foreign Affairs plus the embassy. Tell us the country and we will tell you the route.

What you get

  • Eligibility checked against the destination country before you commit
  • Notarisation arranged first when the document requires it
  • Submission and collection at the Ministry of Law handled by us
  • Sworn translation attached and apostilled together where needed
  • Finished file couriered anywhere in Indonesia or shipped abroad

The steps

  1. Send the document

A scan is enough for us to confirm eligibility, the price and whether a notary step comes first.

  2. Prepare the underlying signature

Where required, the document is translated and notarised so the ministry has a registered signature to authenticate.

  3. Ministry of Law issues the apostille

We file the application and collect the certificate, which is attached to the document and separately verifiable.

  4. Delivery

Scanned copy by email the day it is issued, originals by courier to your address in Indonesia or overseas.

Common questions

How long does an apostille take?

The ministry step itself is usually a matter of days once the file is correctly prepared. Most of the elapsed time goes on the preparation — translation and notarisation — which is why we check the whole chain first.

Should the translation be apostilled too?

Some authorities want the apostille on the original, some on the translation, some on both. It is set by the receiving institution, so we ask you who requested the document before we decide the order.

Can a foreign document be apostilled in Indonesia?

No. An apostille is issued by the country that produced the document. A foreign document coming into Indonesia is apostilled at home and then translated here by a sworn translator.
