Embassy and consulate legalisation

Where the apostille does not apply, each authority in the chain only certifies the stamp before it. Miss one and the embassy will not look at the file. The order is fixed, the requirements differ by embassy, and both change without much notice.

Embassy requirements are not published in one place

One embassy wants the translation bound to the original with a ribbon and seal. Another wants them separate. A third accepts only translations from a list of approved translators, or requires a cover letter naming the purpose of the document. Our Jakarta team files at these counters continuously, so the format is right the first time.

You do not have to be in Jakarta

Almost every embassy and consulate in Indonesia is in Jakarta, with a handful in Surabaya, Medan, Denpasar and Makassar. If you live elsewhere, a courier collects the original from your address, we walk it through each counter, and it comes back to you. You are told at each stage where the file is.

How long does the full chain take?

Two to four weeks is normal, most of it waiting at embassy counters that release documents on their own schedule. We quote a realistic date rather than the best possible one.

What does it cost?

Consular fees vary widely by country and document type, and they are the largest part of the bill. The quote separates our fee from the official fees so you can see both.
